In my research critical analysis (RCA) titled “Prosthetic Innovation Critical Analysis” I was able to enhance my skills in the course learning outcomes. Some of the course learning outcomes I practiced during the critical analysis were: development of strategies for drafting, collaborating, revising, editing, engaging in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes. Some of the things I could work on are the repetitive sentences and thoughts throughout my paper, more background knowledge such as the addition of the current state of affordability of prosthetics. I was able to highlight some of the things I could do to make my RCA better, as well as things that would make my future writing better.
Throughout the paper I noticed I repeated my train of thought in my writing multiple times when it came to the explanation and importance of making prosthetics more affordable. Main example is in the conclusion I repeated that prosthetics are important and should be made more affordable when I had already stated that in the thesis statement in the beginning of the conclusion. There were other examples throughout my paper where my writing became repetitive such as in my body paragraphs where I mentioned prosthetics being an amazing innovation to people.
More background knowledge was needed in my RCA in terms of prosthetic’s current state of affordability and how people are managing with the high cost of prosthetics. I failed to give more information on how amputations can be caused after mentioning the high amputation number that happens yearly. By including this into my paper the RCA would have been better because it would give the readers more information and fully understand and comprehend the importance of prosthetics to the amputee community.
In terms of the course learning outcomes, the RCA has helped me tremendously in sharpening my skills in the development of strategies for drafting, collaborating, revising, editing, engaging in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes. By firstly doing the annotated bibliography I was able to sort of picture what direction I wanted to take in starting the first draft of the RCA instead of jumping straight into it and probably having a lot more errors and messiness in the paper. In addition, after the first draft I was able to plan an effective collaboration and revision after re-reading it multiple times, making my own edits, and the help I received in the writing center. After making my own edits and the edits left by Professor Rodwell, I was able to have a good rough draft to take into the writing center where I was helped with my repetitive sentences, transitioning, and the addition of more information needed in my paper.
In conclusion, I was able to highlight some of the things I could do to make my RCA better, but more importantly my future writings. The RCA has left an impact on my writing skills that I will take with me for my future writings as I continue to become a better writer, reader, and critical thinker.
