This article thoroughly expresses the need for assistive technology of those with a loss of upper limbs and those who are in rehab. The article shows a study which develops a modern low-cost prosthetic device allowing users to control the arm through their smartphone while having a quick manufactured time using three-dimensional printing with plastic material.

The article will help me inform my readers about the use and the importance of low-cost prosthetic limbs to argue the fact that as important as these prosthetic limbs are, they should also be more affordable.

Roentgen, U. R., Heide, L. A. van der, Kremer, I. E. H., Creemers, H., Brehm, M. A., Groothuis, J. T., Hagedoren, E. A. V., Daniëls, R., & Evers, S. M. A. A. (2021, January 1). The article states the importance usage of prosthetic limbs by showing a study on how dynamic arm supports and robotic arms increases a person’s independence, as well as improve their independent living and quality of life.

The study will help me show my readers how important prosthetic limbs may be to those who need it as well as help me in making a compelling argument on the cost of prosthetic limbs.

The cost of a new limb can add up over a lifetime. Hospital for Special Surgery. (n.d.). Retrieved October 30, 2021, from https://www.hss.edu/newsroom_prosthetic-leg-cost-over-lifetime.asp.

This article argues the expensive cost of prosthetic limbs. Highlighting how even the most expensive prosthetic limbs are built to only withstand about three to five years meaning over time a replacement will be needed.

The article will help me sharpen my reasoning on prosthetics limbs being more affordable as it challenges the need to pay so much for a prosthetic limb when it will inevitably need to be replaced after a couple of years.

Dunkin, M. A. (n.d.). Using prosthetic limbs: Safety, care, and concerns. WebMD. Retrieved October 30, 2021, from https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/using-prosthetic-limbs.

The article highlights examples on how prosthetics improve someone’s quality of life and how the prosthetics affect society. Giving reasons such as giving people more independence, giving a replacement to the original limb function to do daily activities, and even finding employment.

This article will be a great example to show how prosthetics make a change in people’s life and how important they are. In addition, it will highlight in my argument that prosthetics can be a new way of freedom and show many benefits to having a good quality life.
